چکیده
purpose: to evaluate the efficacy of riboflavin administration and ultraviolet a (uva) cross-linking on advanced symptomatic bullous keratopathy (bk). methods: 10 patients with symptomatic pseudophakic bullous keratopathy (pbk) were included. slit-lamp examination, visual acuity, foreign body sensation (fbs) and corneal thickness as measured by pentacam, were performed before corneal cross-linking. after using sodium chloride solution for one week, the central 8 mm zone of the corneal epithelium was removed, and cross-linking, with riboflavin instillation every 3 minutes for 30 minutes, and uva irradiation for 40 minutes was performed. va, fbs and corneal thickness were evaluated up to 6 months. results: three male and 7 female patients with mean age of 66±13 years were included. mean follow-up duration was 6.2 months. va increased in 9 eyes postoperatively, fbs subsided in 70% of patients. mean corneal thickness was reduced by 74 µm 6 months after the procedure (p= 0.059). conclusion: collagen cross linking for bk improves fbs & va and decreases corneal thickness; this extends the time interval for corneal transplantation and improves visualization for dsaek procedures.

Corneal collagen cross-linking in bullous keratopathy.
To the Editor: In their article, which was published in the September 2008 issue of the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Krueger et al1 detailed their use of an adapted version of Wollensak et al’s2 corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) therapy to treat a patient with bullous keratopathy. Although the patient’s symptoms appeared much improved at 6-month follow-up, the safety of such a treatment, i...

متن کاملPseudophakic bullous keratopathy
Pseudophakic bullous keratopathy is characterized by corneal stromal edema with epithelial and subepithelial bullae due to cell loss and endothelial decompensation through trauma during cataract surgery. Patients present decreased vision, tearing, and pain caused by ruptured epithelial bullae. Cataract affects approximately 20 million people worldwide, and this complication can occur in 1 to 2%...

PURPOSE To evaluate histological changes in the corneal stroma in pseudophakic bullous keratopathy. METHODS Twenty-eight patients (28 eyes) with pseudophakic bullous keratopathy underwent therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty at Shandong Eye Institute between January 2006 and November 2011. The patients were divided into two groups according to the duration of bullous keratopathy (<1.0 year gr...
متن کاملTreatment of bullous keratopathy with corneal collagen cross-linking in two dogs.
OBJECTIVE Corneal collagen cross-linking with riboflavin and UV-A (CXL) decreases corneal oedema and increases visual acuity in human patients with bullous keratopathy. Presumed mechanisms are an increase in collagen packing density and a reduction in stromal swelling pressure. We present two cases in which CXL was used to treat bullous keratopathy in dogs. PROCEDURES Four eyes of two dogs wi...
